Your Tongue Can Tell A lot About Your Health

Your Tongue Can Tell A lot About Your HealthWe take our tongues for granted! Children explore everything imaginable with their tongues, licking every single thing they see and sticking out their tongues at their parents just to get their reactions. Our tongues became more complex as we explored our first exotic foods and kisses as young adults. A tongue is not just one of our body parts. It is crucial to our ability to swallow and taste food. Furthermore, your tongue can also tell your dentist a lot of valuable information about your oral health and your overall health. You might be surprised by the information that your tongue can provide about your health.

White Coating

The color of your tongue should be a nice pink shade. Oral thrush is a yeast overgrowth that develops inside the oral cavity. If sections of your tongue appear to be coated with a white film, it could possibly be thrush. Of course, it's possible that your tongue appears white because of not scrubbing it every time you go to brush your teeth. Isn't that what you do? You are good to go if the white color washes away.

White Patches

Leukoplakia occurs when the tongue is inflamed, which can arise because of tobacco usage or smoking. Every medical professional will tell you to quit smoking, but the decision is entirely yours. However, if you notice white spots, schedule an appointment with your dentist to be safe and rule out mouth cancer.

Irregular Red Bumpy Patches

If there are uneven, bumpy, and red patches on your tongue it's not a sign that you're about to embark on a journey. You might have a high fever, in this case, which would mean not planning on going anywhere and staying home until you completely feel better.

Sore and Tender Tongue

You might be developing a food allergy or a canker sore if your tongue is unusually sensitive in one region or all over. Don't be concerned until it persists for an extended period. After then, it's time to seek expert advice from a dentist!
