Damage From Simple Carbohydrates
To understand how simple carbohydrates affect your teeth, you have to understand what happens when you eat them. When you eat foods which contain simple carbohydrates, these foods tend to stick to your teeth and linger in your mouth. As they linger they break down into sugar and the bacteria in your mouth eats the sugar off your teeth. The bacteria produce acid as a byproduct which attacks the enamel of your teeth. The enamel, or the hard shiny surface of your tooth, is easily weakened and decalcified by these acidic waste deposits left by the bacteria. Tooth decay is born.
