How To Brush Your Teeth ProperlyAny good dentist will tell you to pay attention to your routine brushing and flossing and make sure you do it correctly. People who brush their teeth the right way find that they don't suffer from oral diseases frequently. Their gums remain strong and healthy, and their teeth don't suffer from conditions like cavities and gum disease.

Items You Need for Your Brushing Sessions

First, get a soft-bristled toothbrush that is gentle on the gums. Also, find a fluoride toothpaste that works best for your oral hygiene. Fluoride helps keep teeth strong, helping prevent cavities. Additionally, get mouthwash. A mouthwash helps eradicate bacteria and wash away food leftovers in the mouth.

How to Brush Properly

Properly brushing your teeth is the first step to all preventative oral care. Below is how you should brush your teeth so that you don't damage the gums and you eliminate much of the bacterial plaque and other debris from the mouth:

Brush Gently

Start brushing the outer surfaces of the teeth with gentle strokes. Brush top and bottom teeth. Go from one tooth to another so that you don't miss any spots.

Brush at an Angle

Tilt the brush at an angle of 45 degrees, then brush against the gumline to help eliminate any lodged food debris and plaque. Move the brush forward and back, making short, tooth-wide strokes.

Brush Inner Teeth Surfaces

It is easy to skip the inner surfaces of teeth since they are invisible. However, they are prone to plaque too, so you have to brush them. Use the same 45-degree angle to brush forth and back.

Brush the Grooves

Make sure you clean the teeth's chewing surfaces. Make short back-and-forth movements of the brush while brushing the tops of the back teeth. It is here where food gets easily trapped.

Do not Forget the Tongue

Again, ensure you brush your tongue so that you have fresher breath. The tongue hosts a lot of odor-causing bacteria. Now that you know how to brush your teeth properly, visit our dental office for your oral care and professional mouth cleaning. Call us today!
